Screw each other,
not the planet.

We’re on a mission to make sex care as natural and pleasurable to shop for as flowers.

Without compromising the planet or our health!

Impact strategy

It would be hypocritical of us to take from nature, while simultaneously destroying her. Here’s what we’re doing to counter our carbon emissions and lessen our impact.

  • ✺ When we say “local” we are referring to either Melbourne or Victoria.

✺ We favour Victorian-grown flowers over interstate or international imports wherever possible. Where we can’t source Vic grown, we’ll then turn to the closest Australian grown option. Internationally imported flowers carry enormous carbon miles, are often chemically treated, and are a pathway for invasive pests to enter Australia, so we try and avoid using these as much as possible.

✺ When it comes to sex care, we are fortunate in Australia to have many independent founders and brands shaking up the sexual wellness and SexTech space. These trail blazers are working tirelessly to break down stigma and eliminate toxins and chemicals from our most intimate products. Margo’s handpicked range of sexual wellness products celebrate these independent, women-owned, Australian brands, most of which are right out of Naarm, Melbourne 💪

  • ✺ We never use preserved flowers, which are treated with hazardous chemicals and harmful bleach or dyes.

✺ For everlasting designs, we use fresh flowers and dry flowers in-house, or (when we have no alternative) buy naturally dried from a responsible source. They are safe for the florist to touch and process, as well as being safe for you to have in your homes and around your pets and children.

✺ After pack down of an event or installation, we dry, reuse or donate as much of our designs as possible, to reduce our green waste.

  • ✺ We never use floral foam.

✺ As well as being completely unnecessary, floral foam is made from a toxic combination of components (carbon black, formaldehyde, and phenolic foam) which slowly break down (but never fully degrade) into microscopic particles (microplastics) that make their way into our waterways, adversely affecting marine life, and our health! Yuck!

✺ As an alternative to toxic floral foam, we use other techniques to anchor our florals (see our full list of mechanics in the tab below). One eco substitute is floral wool, which looks and functions much the same as floral foam. It’s a 100% biodegradable material, which is a natural product made from basalt, a volcanic igneous rock. Friendly to humans and the environment.

  • ✺ A lot of the time, wasteful mechanics are just pure lazy design, we prefer to work with Mother Nature and keep mechanics as simple and plastic-free as possible, favouring materials that are reusable and recyclable.

✺ We use (and reuse) chicken wire, metal flower frogs or Kenzans with reusable floral tac.

✺ We use biodegrade floral wool, rather than hazardous floral foam.

✺ We minimise the use of plastic cable ties wherever possible (and have worked out an hack to reuse them!), favouring wire or organic twine to stabilise designs.

✺ We use metal flower buckets, rather than plastic. Where we have used a plastic bucket, it's because it's second hand or has been re-used from supplier packaging.

✺ For wrapped flowers we use naturally biodegradable tissue wrap. To keep flowers fresh during delivery, we use Great Wrap's compostable cling wrap, rubber bands (reused from supplier packaging) and water soaked biodegradable organic pads/towel.

  • ✺ We limit the amount of new vessels we buy, in favour of finding more creative, sustainable ways to vase and anchor our designs.

✺ We always have an eagle eye on Op Shops, garage sales, Marketplace, hard rubbish and vintage and antique stores wherever we go, sourcing one off vintage vessels.

✺ We think outside the traditional vase, and reuse regular household objects as vessels, such as bowls, glassware, candle jars, beauty jars, trays, drink cans, food tins, etc

✺ When we source pots and vases new we prefer to support local, independent artists and makers where we can.

  • ✺ We understand that packaging is an important part of the gifting experience, not just there to keep products safe. We love a great reveal! But we don’t want to compromise our values to the almighty unboxing moment. Which is why we put a lot of thought into our packaging!

✺ We re-use, repurpose, recycle or responsibly dispose of all supplier packaging.

✺ Where we can, we prefer to buy fresh, local flowers, that avoid the use of plastic sleeves. We try to avoid buying product that is wrapped in unnecessary packaging or plastic sleeves, but when we do, these are recycled through our wholesaler's plastic sleeve recycling program.

✺ All rubber bands from flower bunches are reused. Always handy!!!

✺ All of Margo's packaging, tape, stickers, cards and tissue paper are all plastic-free and either recyclable or biodegradable. We don't use anything that contains harmful inks, dyes or chemicals.

  • ✺ We compost or dispose of all green waste responsibly through our own compost system and local council.

✺ After each event or installation, our team meticulously breaks down, sorts, cleans, reuses or recycles everything. We dry florals where we can, and reuse mechanics.

✺ We never use garbage bags or plastic bags during a pack down.

✺ We encourage our customers to dispose of their flowers and other products from us responsibly, with “After Care” instruction cards and tips on our website, as well as how to extend the life of flowers.

✺ We, on occasion, donate leftover flowers, when the client doesn't want to keep them for themselves.

✺ All of our packaging is recyclable or biodegradable and plastic-free!

✺ We tell you how to responsibly dispose of your sexual wellness products on each product page.

  • ✺ We only work with suppliers we trust and have the same shared ethics and ethos as we do. That goes for our floral wholesalers and growers, as well as the sexual wellness brands that we stock and/or collaborate with.

✺ Our suppliers believe in a fair working wage, ethical conditions for workers, supply chain transparency, corporate and social responsibility, being generous and giving back to the community, and reducing carbon emissions and impact on planet, people and animals.

✺ The brands we work with are independent, Australian owned, female or minority owned start ups or small businesses.

  • ✺ We’re committed to always being better, and using business to be a radical force for good. We're constantly learning better ways of doing business; from our suppliers, peers, industry associations, research and you, our customers.

✺ In turn, we see it as our duty to inspire and educate our own learnings about sustainable business practices too.

To educate our community and build trust, we are:

transparent about our supply chain and product information, clearly stating product information on our website, including origin of product, how it's made/treated, and how to dispose of it responsibly.

ethical in relation to wages and living conditions of our workers and everyone within our supply chain.

vet our suppliers to ensure our values are aligned.
